Effective January 5, 2002, all calls made from the 847 areacode to other numbers within the 847 areacode will require "1+847", just as a call to another area code would. This change will be required in other Chicagoland area codes at later dates. To change your computer's settings to dial "1+847", please select your operating system below:

Macintosh PPP/FreePPP

  1. Click on the "Apple" in the top right-hand corner
  2. From the drop-down menu, select "Control Panels"
  3. In "Control Panels" select "PPP/FreePPP"
  4. Modify your DLS local number to include "1847"

Macintosh Remote Access

  1. Click on the "Apple" in the top right-hand corner
  2. From the drop-down menu, select "Control Panels"
  3. In "Control Panels" select "Remote Access"
  4. Modify your DLS local number to include "1847"

Windows 95, 98, and ME

  1. With the left mouse button, double-click "My Computer" on the desktop.
  2. Double-click on "Dial-Up Networking", then double-click on your DLS Internet connection profile
  3. At the "Connect To" screen, select "Dial Properties"
  4. Viewing the "My Location" tab, please confirm that 847 is entered for the area code. Select the checkbox for the very last option, "Dial as a long distance call". Change the number to be dialed to "1 847" followed by your local access number.

Windows 2000

  1. Right-click on "My Network Places" and then left-click "Properties"
  2. Right-click on your DLS Internet connection and left-click "Properties"
  3. Viewing the "General" tab, select "Rules"
  4. Select "Edit" to edit the dialing location properties.
  5. Select the "Area Code Rules" tab and left-click "New..." to create a new rule
  6. Type "847" in the "Area Code" field and left-click both check boxes under "Rules".
  7. Once you left-click OK, the configuration will now dial "1 + area code" and then your DLS local number.

Windows NT

  1. With the left mouse button, double-click "My Computer" on the desktop.
  2. Double-click on "Dial-Up Networking", then double-click on your DLS Internet connection profile
  3. Select the phone book entry for DLS
  4. Click "More" and choose "Edit entry and modem properties"
  5. Modify your DLS local number to include "1847"

Windows XP

  1. Left-click the "Start" button. Select "Control Panel", then double-click "Network Connections"
  2. Viewing the "General" tab, select "Rules"
  3. Select "Edit" to edit the dialing location properties.
  4. Select the "Area Code Rules" tab and left-click "New..." to create a new rule
  5. Type "847" in the "Area Code" field and left-click both check boxes under "Rules".
  6. Once you left-click OK, the configuration will now dial "1 + area code" and then your DLS local number.
